Protection
Okapis were created with not so powerful fighting skills but cunning minds. They use the dense, think vegetation around them as a shelter/hideout from unsuspecting predators. The good thing too is that even as babies they are silent. Well, not too silent but in the moment of danger they know that one sound could cost their life.
Predators
The okapi is lucky compared to what other species have to put up with. Although, the okapi does have to put up with the leopard. The leopard is one of the largest felines on Earth and is known to have incredible stealth and smarts. Leopards usually are high up in trees, looking down for prey. Adult okapis are big and would make a good meal for a leopard. That is when the leopard would then either attack from above or pounce on it from the ground. The less common predator is the serval. A smaller feline friend that could easily be mistaken as an ocelot or even a house cat. They are small but can really pack a punch. Sadly they are not the only predator. Poachers hunt okapis for special features and their fur and deforestation causes habitat lose, killing okapi every year. Let's just say every predator mentioned except the serval is a huge threat to the okapia johnstoni.
